In 1958, he made the first LBV-type port wine - vintage 1954. Highly valued for Vintage and LBV port wines, for which berries are grown in private vineyards. Since 1993, AXA has been part of the Millesime group together with the famous Château Pichon-Longueville and Disznóko wineries. The color is bright yellow with a slight greenish tint. Aromas of dried fruits, honeydew, ripe apples, tropical fruits, white flowers, acacia, some dried herbs, anise and fennel with lively citrus acidity. The taste is semi-dry, structurally fruity and lively, you can feel bitter herbs, ripe yellow fruits, dried apples, pear peel and herbal spiciness with added roasted almonds. The aftertaste is fruity with a mineral note, lively, herbal citrus freshness. The grapes are hand-picked from 20-year-old vines grown on slate soil in the Douro Valley. 50% of the wine is fermented together with the skins in 18oC stainless steel barrels, fortified with grape distillate, and 90% of the wine develops for an average of 2 years in large oak barrels.
