The small estate, only 11 hectares in size, was founded in 1956, near the city of Trier, in the village of Serrig on the bank of the Saar River, when the Ebert family, who fled the war from the Brandenburg region of East Germany, bought the berry plantations left behind during World War II along with a small manor house. Today, Christian Ebert manages the Schloss Saarstein estate, growing grapes on the steep slate terraces of the Saar River according to the principle: "Every vine must see the river." Pale yellow in appearance with a low intensity greenish undertone. The aroma is minerally citrusy, siliceous and florally fruity. Feel peaches, ripe yellow plums, lime and lemon, white flowers, linden and apple blossoms with mineral fresh citrus. The taste is light, semi-sweet, lively with citrus and juicy with fruit. Feel overripe light stone fruits, white currants, apricots, ripe citrus and bright, prickly minerality. The aftertaste is long and citrusy-gingerly fruity. The grapes are hand-picked at an optimal ripeness from the slate terraces of the Saar River, the wine is fermented in stainless steel barrels and does not develop in oak barrels.
