
The Tenuta delle Terre Nere winery is located in Sicily, on the northern side of Mount Etna. There are currently 27 hectares of land under vines, which in turn is divided into 24 smaller plots. The average age of vines growing on 21 hectares of land is between 50-100 years, and on one piece of land vines grow with an average age of 130-140 years. The average height of the vineyards is between 600 and 1000 m above sea level. The soil varies greatly between different patches of land. Mainly there is a mixture of volcanic ash, sand and stones, the plots with the heaviest soil are covered with black volcanic pumice. San Lorenzo is made from 100% Carricante grapes from an 8 ha plot. The average age of vines is 50-100 years. The harvest took place in early October, followed by fermentation at a controlled temperature. This was followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation and maturation in large French oak barrels. The wine matured for 16-18 months before bottling. A pale ruby red wine with a mahogany sheen. The aroma is set by ripe berries and spices. The taste is well structured, complex and with mild tannins.
