Marqués de Riscal XR is inspired by the historic tradition of the winery, where the winemakers used chalk to mark selected oak casks with the letters XR – this denoted wines with a special character that stood out for their uniqueness and quality. These wines never made it to the market, but served as the winemaker's secret benchmark. This practice lasted for almost a century, from the harvest of 1869 until 1964. Created today, XR Reserva is a tribute to all the winemakers who have helped shape the legendary legacy of Marqués de Riscal. The color of the wine is deep, intense blackish cherry red. The aroma is very expressive - licorice, cinnamon and black pepper emerge, complemented by a subtle hint of long-term oak aging and nuances of ripe, concentrated berries. On the palate, the wine is fresh and elegant, with silky and polished tannins, a very good structure and a long-lasting aftertaste, where fine balsamic notes remain. Contains sulfites.
