Marqués de Riscal Reserva is made primarily from Tempranillo grapes planted before the 1970s and growing on the best clay-limestone soils in Rioja Alavesa. Tempranillo is perfect for oak barrel and bottle aging thanks to its balanced acidity and fine tannins. The blend contains up to 10% Graciano grape, which adds freshness and vibrant color to the wine. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature and lasts no more than 12 days with a short soaking time to preserve the fruitiness of the grapes. The wine is then aged for around 20 months in American oak barrels, achieving the classic Rioja style – fresh, elegant and refined. Before reaching the market, the wine matures for at least another year in the bottle, which gives it complexity and harmony. The color of the wine is intense black cherry red, the aroma reveals licorice, cinnamon and black pepper, complemented by a subtle hint of oak barrel. The taste is full and velvety, fresh and well balanced, with a persistent aftertaste with a slight balsamic nuance. Contains sulfites.
