The history of Jacob's Creek begins in 1847, when Bavarian Johann Gramp plants vines on the banks of Jacob's Creek and establishes a winery called Gramp & Sons. Later, the name Orlando Wines was introduced, after the plantation of the same name founded by Johann Gramp on the slope of Jacob's Creek, and the first vintage was bottled in 1850. The Gramp family's German origins gave impetus to Australia's first Riesling in 1953, and in 1956 the first Australian sparkling wine 'Barossa Pearl' was introduced.
