"Ngakirikiri" means gravel in the Maori language and sums up the 54 years of work done by the Villa Maria winery. 2013 was a year of exceptional weather, producing one of the best red wines ever produced in the Hawkes Bay region. Only 6,000 bottles were produced. The wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 52% of which were new. The ruby red wine reveals intense and pure aromas of plum, purple flowers, freshly ground coffee beans, dried thyme and cedar. The concentrated taste shows ripe fruit, fine tannins and supporting oak. A full-bodied, rich and excellently textured wine suitable for 15-20 years in the cellar.
