The Bottled-in-bond act, passed in 1897 to set a quality standard for bourbon whiskey, states that: • Bottled-in-bond whiskey must be produced in the same whiskey still • A batch of bottled-in-bond whiskey must be distilled in the same year and in the same season (January-June, July-December) • Bottled-in-bond whiskey must have matured in a state controlled excise warehouse for at least 4 years • Bottled-in-bond whiskey must be bottled at 50% ABV (100 proof)
