The history of the oldest winery in the state of Washington dates back to 1912, when Seattle businessman Frederic Stimson bought 34ha of land in Woodinville, where he built a farm with a vineyard and hunting grounds. Stimson named his estate Hollywood Farm, later Stimson Lane Vineyards & Estate. In 1951, the first "Vitis Vinifera" berries were planted In 1976, a French-style wine estate was built and the winery was named Château Ste. Michelle, which in 2004 and 2005 was awarded the title of "Winery of the Year" in the United States. Pale yellow in color with a lower than average intensity. The aroma is more intense than average and florally fruity. You can feel white cruciferous grass, fresh yellow stone fruits, fresh apricots, peach, ginger and mustard seeds, lime and some chalk, yellow ripe apples and fresh citrus fruits. The taste is light, dry and fruity. Ripe yellow apples and plums, fresh citrus, lime, some ginger and mustard seeds, plus pears with a slight prickly minerality. The aftertaste is long, slightly mineral and citrusy. The grapes are hand-picked from the Evergreen vineyard in the Ancient Lakes AVA, the wine is fermented at a low temperature in stainless steel barrels to preserve the wine's fresh character, and the wine is not aged in oak.
