Old Tobago rum is named after the island of Tobago in the Caribbean. The island became known for the successful and extensive cultivation of sugar cane. Sugarcane growers became wealthy, and as a result the expression "as rich as a Tobago planter" was coined among the rich of London. Growers there made a significant contribution to the history of rum, which has been passed down to the present day. One of the most successful sugarcane growers was Sir William Henry, who lived in the Caribbean archipelago in the 18th century. Making rum became his greatest passion, and even now Old Tobago rum is made according to the original recipe he created. High-quality sugarcane molasses is used in the production of Black Rum. The flavor profile is strongly influenced by fruity notes, with caramel and a slightly sweet aftertaste.
