The history of Cristal begins in 1876, when it began to be made according to the demanding taste of the Russian Tsar Alexander II. Russian Tsar Alexander II asked Roederer to make a drink in a transparent bottle with a flat bottom and a golden label. The flat bottom of the bottle was to ensure that no bomb was hidden under the bottle. The transparent color of the bottle was supposed to show that it was not a poisoned drink. Champagne was produced from the best and oldest grapes. At that time, the bottle itself was made of a special crystal - clear, strong glass, after which the champagne got its name - "Cristal Champagne". Cristal became the world's first truly prestigious champagne.
